Axios report: Trump said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was “very helpful” in pressuring Hamas to move forward, calling him “a tough guy” and “a friend of mine … he was great.”
A US official told Axios that Trump told Erdogan, “I did a lot for you, and now I need you to do this,” urging him to ensure Hamas didn’t reject the deal.
Trump added that Netanyahu initially had reservations before their call but ultimately agreed to proceed and halt strikes to prepare for the plan’s first phase. (Strikes have not in fact been halted. Axios describes it as a "shift to defensive operations" and stopping airstrikes "beyond those needed for force protection.")
He later posted a map of the proposed initial Israeli withdrawal from parts of Gaza to occur once the captives are released, saying Israel has agreed, writing: “When Hamas confirms, the Ceasefire will be IMMEDIATELY effective, the Hostages and Prisoner Exchange will begin, and we will create the conditions for the next phase of withdrawal, which will bring us close to the end of this 3,000 YEAR CATASTROPHE.
